- The first thing you need to do is to select a right container. A large flower pot or square wooden container or plastic tub can be chosen.
- Consider the size of the container based on the number of plants and other features you wish to add to it. A container with 12-24 inches width and 12-16 inches depth is mostly suitable.
- Choose a proper place for positioning it. Remember that the plants you keep in it require at least 4-6 hours of full sunlight per day. When choosing a tub garden, keep in mind that water is heavy and it is most likely impossible to move the tub garden once the water is added.
- Do not forget to waterproof the container. You can use a heavy-gauge trash bag or any sealing agent to create a watertight surface.
- Fill two-thirds of the container with water.
- Choose different aquatic plants like Horsetail, Lilies, Lotus, Water Hyacinth, Fanwort, Arrowhead, Dwarf Papyrus or any others which create a beautiful visual appeal.
- The plants should be kept in individual small pots filled with appropriate soil or clay. Then, top the soil with 1/4 inch to 1 inch of sand or gravel to hold the soil in place.
- Ensure that you follow water depth instructions for placing plants at varied depths.
- Then, fill it with water till the top level.
- You can even add fish, snails, fountain kits or any other features to make it more interesting.
