Small Business Investments in 2008: SBA

Office of Advocacy gave the trends in small businesses investment of year 2008.

The bear stock market in corporate shares which began in the winter of 2008 continued in the first half of 2008 and later collapsed as a result of disturbances in the financial markets remained. The activity in the IPO market saw a drastic drop in 2008.

There was a decline in total value of IPO from $35.8 billion in 2007 to $6.5 billion in 2008. There was also decline in number of IPO offerings from 162 to 25 when compared to the previous year. There was also a decrease in the offerings by small issuers even more. The IPOs for small issuers with assets of less than $25 million saw a decline from $748 billion in 2007 to $6.5 billion in 2008. There was also decrease in offerings by issuers with assets of $10 million or less declined from $92.7 billion to $5.1 billion.

The overall fund raising decreased 21.4 percent in 2008 to a total amount of $27.9 billion which is less compared to $35.5 billion in 2007.

  • You collect all the service and repair records and and take the photocopies of the records and give one set of photocopy to buyer and it is required.
  • You can meet the authorized automobile department to find out the, requirement of smog certificate.
  • You can give an advertisement of your car for sale in local papers, and other classified and resources.
  • You can say about why are you selling that car, if any buyer wants to buy your car. Tell about gas mileage and repairs which were done.
  • You say the selling price of the car, if they ask to reduce the price then you can reduce or politely say that you cannot accept anything so low. You can reduce the price where you can accept to sell. Finally, get an agreement to sell.
  • You can accept cash, a cashier's check or money for the payment from buyer. If you know person very well you can take personal check, otherwise you should not.
  • Sign can be made on the title certificate of the car to transfer the ownership of the car. There are two important certificates such as title certificate of the vehicle and and odometer statement which shows the mileage of the car. These two certificates should be given by seller to buyer. In some states smog certificate is also necessary. You can return other documents like car's warranty, service records.

New hire registration programs are managed and implemented by the Federal legislation to track individual employment data for the purpose of quick child support enforcement and fraud control of different welfare programs.
  • You should be aware of tax reporting schedules and requirements.

SME Access to Finance Barometer : BIS

According to BIS 'SME Business Barometer', about 49 percent of SME owners claim that only the external finance is vital for their business. One of the main reason to seek finance is to secure working capital as per 59 percent of them and also this portion is more than in any previous Barometer.

Among the SME owners who are seeking finance, 46 percent of them looked for bank loans and about 33 percent an overdraft. There is an increase in applications for bank finance in December of 2009. Bank finance is opted by construction and service sectors.

Around 38 percent of them who opted for finance reported a sort of difficulty in trying to get it. About 30 percent of them who opted for finance where not able to gain any. The statistics have not changed from previous Barometers but the percentage having difficulty in getting finance remains to be much higher than the 2007 and 2008 ASBS.


28 percent of those who are with bank overdrafts reported that their bank has put up interest rates in the past 6 months though 3 percent reported that interest rates have decreased. It is also similar to the previous barometers, but the percentage reporting a decrease is less.

Psychological Effects of Drug Addiction

There are so many drugs like heroin, cocaine, marijuana, alcohol, etc. person has to face many problems by using these drugs. There are many effects on health and brain caused by using drugs.

There are some psychological effects such as changes in central nervous system and dilation of the blood vessels and increase in heart rate. After consumption, brain damage is also included, as brain cells die. Primary effects of drugs are on neurons which use the chemical serotonin to communicate with other neurons in brain. An important role is played by the serotonin in regulating mood, sleep aggression and sensitivity to pain.

Confusion, sleep problems, depression, severe anxiety, drug craving are produced by drugs addition. These drug users have poor performance than nonusers on certain memory tasks. Consciousness, thoughts and mood are altered by drug addiction. People may feel nervousness, paranoid, excitable, confused because of lack of sleep. They also feel overexcited, uncomfortably restless, nauseous, unable to cope up with emotions, panic, insomnia and psychosis.

These are psychological effects which are caused by using drugs and sometimes these may lead to death.

The Five Simple Steps in Meditation

Now-a-days, meditation has become a part of human life. But, many people feel meditation gives many results. Meditation can be done in different ways. All the methods preach commonly on how to concentrate. The different steps involved in meditation are

  • A person who wants to meditate should select a peaceful and pleasant place for meditation. One should select such a place that the person should not be disturbed for around 20 minutes. The seating arrangement should be comfortable, as it should not distract the concentration while meditating.
  • After sitting in a comfortable place, do not start meditating immediately. First, relax for 2 -3 minutes to calm yourself down, then close your eyes.
  • After closing eyes, take few long and deep breathes which will help in eliminating all the stress.
  • As the stress is released, now the mind becomes free from unwanted thoughts. Next, start observing your breathe and start counting them. Concentrating on breathe becomes easy as the mind becomes free from thoughts.
  • If there is any recurrence of thoughts, restart the same process again. Few people may face difficulty during the initial days, but they get accustomed once they do it regularly.

Causes of Yeast Infection in Children

Immune system is weak in newborns, and it will be strengthening while children are growing, and it will be strong when they become adults. Because of this reason children are affected by many diseases easily. Yeast infection can be seen in children commonly. It seems to be red swollen tissues which are covered by cream or white colored patches. They can be seen in mouth and genital and anal areas also. There are many causes for yeast infection in children, such as:
  • First major cause is antibiotics. If any children are not well then they are taken to hospitals then doctors prescribe antibiotics to cure diseases. Generally, children have good bacteria in their body, which help them to be healthy. Intake of antibiotics cures the disease and as well as destroys the good bacteria. Yeast fungus can attack the child because of absence of good bacteria in the body.
  • Another reason is high intake of sugar. High consumption of sugar can lead to the growth of fungus in the body and it causes yeast infection. Yeast infection can be led by other things like canned fruit juices which are made at home with 5 to 6 teaspoon of sugar and also consumption of cow's milk, rice milk, goat milk.
  • Yeast infection can be passed through mother to child, if she has yeast infection, while she is giving birth to baby. It can be passed from mother to baby by breast feeding also.
