The world car of the year 2009 was announced in New York auto show. The jury of 2009 consists of 59 members of the automotive press selected through secret ballot. The jury members represented Asia, Europe, North America, and South America. The panel will vote for their favorite car based on car overall merit, value, safety, environmental responsibility, emotional appeal, and significance.

- World performance car of the year 2009: Nissan GT-R won the award of world performance car of the year 2009. This car engine provides 480 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque.
