Importance of Vitamins for Cancer Prevention

Vitamins are considered to be essential for promoting health. They are involved in several important functions including prevention of cancer. The antioxidant activity of vitamins help reduce the risk of cancer. With exposure to radiation, pesticides, and other environmental hazards, stress develops in the body. It enhances the development of free radicals which cause cell damage and various health issues like cancer. However, antioxidants are the chemicals which avoid and reduce such cell damage. This way vitamins which are rich in antioxidants fight against cell damage preventing cancer.

Vitamins A, B, C, and E are considered to prevent various types of cancer including breast, colon, skin, prostrate, and bladder cancer. Vitamin A, also called as retinol, is significant in preventing cancerous growth. It is found in foods such as sweet potatoes, carrots, liver, milk, egg yolk, and mozzarella cheese. Vitamin C is called as ascorbic acid and is a highly powerful antioxidant. Hence, it plays an important role in preventing cancer. It is highly found in fruits and vegetables. Even beef, poultry, cereals, and fish are rich in this vitamin. It has been found from certain studies that vitamin E prevents the incidence of prostrate cancer. This vitamin, called tocopherol, is found in almonds. It is even abundant in oils including wheat germ, safflower, corn, and soybean. Also, mangoes, broccoli, and nuts contain vitamin E.

Having foods rich in these vitamins is, therefore, helpful to avoid cancer and also reduce existing cancerous symptoms. These days, vitamin supplements are being used to be away from such serious illnesses. However, they have to be taken in right dosage – as excessive use may cause other side effects.

Most Popular Drug Test Kit and its Applications

Many people are often confused with the enormous product range of drug test kits available in the market. Even though there are test kits which can effectively detect the individual drugs, they are of less use when the abused drug is unknown. Also, it is not worth to get kit for each and every drug and test it. It makes the person who conducts as well the person who provides the sample very frustrated. The invent of multi-panel drug test kits, successfully eliminated this confusion, by detecting multiple drugs at a single shot using the same specimen.

However, the availability of huge variety of drug test kits again left the people in a dilemma, as they are confused to choose the right combination. Keeping in mind all the above mentioned difficulties and problems, the National Institute of Drug Abuse, made a thorough research and came out with a group of drugs which are found to be mostly abused among different groups of people. They named them as NIDA 5, which are later called as SAHMSA 5. These drugs are found to be extensively used by the people in US. This made the evolution of NIDA 5 panel drug test kits, which are later termed as the effective kits for drug detection, especially during the early stages.

NIDA or SAMSHA 5 panel drug test kits are able to detect the SAMHSA 5 drugs namely - Amphetamines, Cannabinoids (THC), Cocaine, Opiates, and Phencyclidine(PCP). As these drugs are widely in use by different kinds of people, the test kit is found to be effective for drug detections. However, in case of broader range of drug testing more paneled drug testing kits like 10-12 panel are required.

Using the mentioned drug test kits which are approved by FDA and set to the cutoff levels of SAMHSA or NIDA, could give accurate results for all the drug tests conducted using these drug test kits. NIDA/SAMHSA 5 are found to be the effective ones for drug testing at important places like schools and workplaces.

Blood and Saliva Tests – Ideal for Post-Accident Drug Testing

Post-accident drug testing, as the name suggests, is conducted after an accident or after any incident on the job that leads to suspicion. It is one of the effective measures of a drug-free workplace program. It is conducted to know if the accident that had occurred is because of the influence of illicit drug or alcohol. Post-accident drug testing is not intended to punish the drug abusing employee or make him or her lose his job. It is mainly meant for protecting the company from liability in event that the individual is under drug or alcohol influence at the time of accident. However, blood and saliva drug test method which detect present drug abuse are only used for post-accident drug testing.

In a blood test, blood sample is drawn from the concerned employee and checked for the presence of illicit drugs or alcohol. However, it is an invasive procedure. It also requires laboratory analysis to confirm the results, which also takes time. An alternative method of saliva drug testing can also be conducted for post-accident testing. It is very much non-invasive. A mouth swab is kept into the employee's mouth and rubbed along his cheeks and teeth in order to collect the saliva sample. The sample is tested for the presence of drugs or alcohol. Recent drug abuse is clearly evident from saliva drug test. Another advantage of this method is that it provides quick results within a few minutes. So, you need not wait for the results as in case of blood tests. Conclusions regarding the accident or injuries can be taken as early as possible with the help of saliva drug tests. However, both blood and saliva tests can be used for post-accident drug testing.
