Importance of Vitamins for Cancer Prevention

Vitamins are considered to be essential for promoting health. They are involved in several important functions including prevention of cancer. The antioxidant activity of vitamins help reduce the risk of cancer. With exposure to radiation, pesticides, and other environmental hazards, stress develops in the body. It enhances the development of free radicals which cause cell damage and various health issues like cancer. However, antioxidants are the chemicals which avoid and reduce such cell damage. This way vitamins which are rich in antioxidants fight against cell damage preventing cancer.

Vitamins A, B, C, and E are considered to prevent various types of cancer including breast, colon, skin, prostrate, and bladder cancer. Vitamin A, also called as retinol, is significant in preventing cancerous growth. It is found in foods such as sweet potatoes, carrots, liver, milk, egg yolk, and mozzarella cheese. Vitamin C is called as ascorbic acid and is a highly powerful antioxidant. Hence, it plays an important role in preventing cancer. It is highly found in fruits and vegetables. Even beef, poultry, cereals, and fish are rich in this vitamin. It has been found from certain studies that vitamin E prevents the incidence of prostrate cancer. This vitamin, called tocopherol, is found in almonds. It is even abundant in oils including wheat germ, safflower, corn, and soybean. Also, mangoes, broccoli, and nuts contain vitamin E.

Having foods rich in these vitamins is, therefore, helpful to avoid cancer and also reduce existing cancerous symptoms. These days, vitamin supplements are being used to be away from such serious illnesses. However, they have to be taken in right dosage – as excessive use may cause other side effects.
