Things to Consider When Choosing a Dog Car Crate

Taking a dog along with you in your car is really worrying as the pet doesn't sit calm. It keeps on moving, disturbing your driving. A pet-friendly car travel is ensured, however, by a pet crate. Choose a right dog crate considering some important things and enjoy a safe travel.
  • Consider the material of the dog car crate. While crates are made of different materials, those made with plastic and wire are popularly used. However, plastic ones are approved for airline travel. Crates made of wire mesh offer better visibility and ventilation too, and are perfect for car travel.
  • You should keep in mind the size of the pet when choosing a car crate. Also, consider your car size. Some standard dog car crates are difficult to fit in a car. Choosing a right sized crate with sloping slides can be better.
  • Choose a crate that ensures safety to your dog. It should be strong, sturdy, and latched securely. There should not be any sharp edges that may pose danger to your pet.
  • Chew-proof car crates should be preferred. Avoid those with wicker style covers as they may encourage chewing. Crated made with molded plastic and wire frame tend to be the most chew-proof.
  • Clean-up ability of the crate should also be considered. Wire frame dog car crates are easier to clean when compared to plastic. They are designed with a raised floor which allows food, debris, and waste to pass through to a solid pan below.
Though there may be many other preferences, these are the major things to look at while selecting a dog car crate.
